bitcoin measures your freedom
Look at the map can you tell that in countries that respect their people and respect their freedom ( somewhat at least ) they also are ok with bitcoin and countries where people have no freedom, those countries also ban bitcoin
there is couple of sites that are giving us the info on legality of BTC in certain parts of the world but Wikipedia is always good to check as well to compare
I wouldn't say the countries necessarily respect the people but more like look after their own (other rich people) that are aware of what was going to take place and have taken advantage of the situation.
