CoinTracking

CoinTracking is a service that allows you to track your cryptocurrency trades and other transactions. It provides a number of reporting and analysis tools including tax calculations.

You can enter transactions manually or you can import them directly from an exchange's CSV export file. You can even automate that part with supported exchanges by means of API keys. And no, you do not have to be a programmer to successfully generate an API key from an exchange.

I knew I needed to account for my cryptocurrency profits when I file my tax return for 2017. At first I was planning to figure it all out on Excel. After my husband, who is a real Excel whiz, worked through the data dump from just one exchange I knew we needed another way because doing it all on Excel would simply be too time consuming. I looked around and found a couple services. I tried one out called Bitcoin Tax and figured out quickly that it wasn't going to work for me, so then splurged and bought a subscription to CoinTracking and have been diligently entering all my data ever since. Although pulling it all together has been quite a bit of work, CoinTracking has already saved me countless hours as all the analysis tools I will need are already built right in.

If you are like me facing the daunting task of having to account for thousands of cryptocurrency transactions (it is surprisingly easy to generate that many transactions, especially if you use MinnowBooster on Steemit, for example), you should absolutely give CoinTracking a try. You can give it a whirl for free up to 200 transactions.

So far my favorite part is the widget on the dashboard that shows my holdings at a glance. I can see how much of each coin I have, their price in both Bitcoin and USD, and a running total of the value of all holdings in real time. The widget updates both as the price changes and as the amount of holdings adjusts as fresh transactions get imported through the APIs. I don't have to look up each individual coin's page on Coin Marketcap any longer. With CoinTracking it's all in one place customized for my portfolio.
