Apparently Russian nuclear scientists have tried to mine cryptocurrencies with a super computer
According to BBC, Russian nuclear scientist tried to use a super computer to mine bitcoin. However, they failed because the computer was not connected to the internet and when they tried to connect it, an alert was set off.
It goes without saying that cryptocurrencies have gained a lot of attention recently and people are seeing free money everywhere they look. This story, however, goes over the top with the lack of thinking from the scientists side. However, this is not the first time someone tried to use super computers to mine cryptocurrencies. A former professor at a american university got caught running their super computer to mine bitcoin a couple of years back if I remember correctly.

This sort of behavior from highly educated individuals is interesting yet really illogical from my point of view. How did they ever think they could get away with it? Or did they think it was ok? Surely not.

Well... Nuclear scientist and they don't connect the computer to internet? Seriously? That's hilarious.
The computer was not connected for security reasons I think. And it had an alert if someone tried to get it online.
This is what happens when you go to work and all you can think of is crypto. :)
