🗞 Venezuela's Cryptocurrency Is Here, But Who's Involved Isn't Clear

There's a flurry of information coming out of Venezuela this week about its new national cryptocurrency, the petro, though a full picture of the project has yet to emerge.

A Twitter account linked to Aerotrading has several tweets posts, all from today, including one that reads: "We are pleased to welcome the #Petro cryptocurrency to the #blockchain ecosystem."

🗞 Major Banks Partner With R3 Blockchain Alliance To Launch Pilot Trade Platfor

One of the world’s largest hedge funds Elliott Management, founded by billionaire Paul Singer in 1977, dedicated three pages to describing its negative view of cryptocurrencies in a fourth-quarter letter to clients, calling cryptocurrencies “one of the most brilliant scams in history," Business Insider reported Feb. 20.

An initiative involving R3, a Blockchain consortium made up of over 100 financial institutions, trade finance platform TradeIX, and a group of leading global banks announced the pilot launch of their trade finance platform, according to a press release Wednesday, Feb. 21.

🗞 Bitcoin Usage Falls to Its Lowest in Months

There’s never a bad time to be sending and receiving bitcoin, but right now is especially good. Fees are at the lowest in 18 months, with the average transaction value now under a dollar. This contrasts starkly with the latter quarter of last year, when rising fees peaked at $34. There’s a primary reason why fees have been dropping since then: with bitcoin too expensive to send, people simply stopped using it as currency.

🗞 SEC Brings Charges Against BitFunder, Jon Montroll

On Wednesday, the SEC filed civil charges in the federal district court in Manhattan against BitFunder and its operator Jon E. Montroll. The US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York also filed a complaint in a parallel criminal case against Montroll for perjury and obstruction of justice.

Today, February 21, 2018, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) brought charges against Jon E. Montroll, 37, and BitFunder, an unregistered bitcoin-denominated securities exchange.

As I said you yesterday, we went directly to the support line in red :

I will be honest with you, I was not expecting that we will break directly our support line in red. We tested it during some hours but we can see now that we already broke it.

It is really not a good news for the STEEM because the next support line is now around 2.85$. However, we still have also the possibility to see the STEEM going back up of that line and creates what we call a bullish wick. Let's see what will happen in the coming hours.
