Blockchain Spending to Hit Nearly $12 Billion By 2022

As per its newest report, the International Data Corporation (IDC) expects spending on blockchain projects to total USD11.7bn in 2022 alone, vs. the USD1.5bn expected to be spent this year. This represents an annual growth rate in spending of nearly 75 per cent to 2022.
As such, the IDC predicts that "blockchain platform software will be the largest category of spending outside of the services category and one of the fastest growing categories overall, along with security software".
The financial sector – which, according to the report, has spent a total of USD552m in 2018 – is expected to lead the space, with banks highlighted as early adopters of blockchain technology.
