The miscommunication about a BTC split.

in #bitcoin7 years ago

I've had a hard time understanding why everyone wants to freak out about a BTC split. All this fear mongering about your BTC becoming worthless or worse disappearing. That's just simply not how this all works, a BTC split is only potentially (emphasis on potentially)bad for those who accept BTC beginning Aug 1st. For those who currently hold BTC and did not plan to change anything in that short window of time the worst that can happen is nothing changes, but in the event of a split you end up with a new BTC as well on top of the original BTC.

You can speculate that maybe the value of BTC as a whole will be divided between these two coins, or the new coin gains its own value as a new and separate solution, either way your value is not lost. So can we stop screaming and yelling about how this is such a terrible thing? Its just a part of how its all programmed, this was part of the design, Satoshi didnt expect Bitcoin to be the only one. Ethereum seems to operate just fine with a second version and in fact has out performed BTC in growth. Bitcoin isn't dead, it's not even dying, it's just having some growing pains like we all do in adolescence. Bitcoin is only just coming up on its 10th birthday it's not even a preteen yet. We don't let a ten year old run for president and in similar fashion Bitcoin isn't ready to be the worlds main store of value, but one day it might.
