The developer group that helps manage the Ethereum cryptocurrency network said a delayed software update will now take place on Feb. 27.

The so-called fork will reduce rewards paid to miners to two coins from three per block, and it should reduce inflation and bring more stability to the Ether digital coin. The upgrade is designed to stave off the so-called difficulty bomb, which would make the network unusable unless regular software upgrades are made. The developer group made the comments on a conference call Friday.

The upgrade, called Constantinople, had been postponed from earlier this week after a security researcher discovered a bug in the software that could let attackers steal funds.
