Margin shorts on Bitfinex are now higher than when Bitcoin was at $20k.

A lot of traders were shorting with margin on Bitfinex as the price climbed towards $20k, at the end of December, but what I find absolutely amazing is how many margin short positions have accumulated during the bear market. As of today, there are close to 50% more short positions than during the bull market!!

Margin shorts today = ~38k BTC.

Margin longs today = ~33k BTC.

    There are still 25k shorts on Bitfinex, so there's are plenty of positions yet to be liquidated. I wouldn't be surprised to see another spike soon, as the longs are emboldened now. Next 24h should be very interesting!

    Just search for 'Bitfinex' on Tradeview and add the indicators to your charts.

        The exact timing is hard to predict, but I think it's likely. If you look to the left part of the chart, you'll see that margin shorts were at extreme highs just before bitcoin went from 6k to 8k. Then, as bitcoin continued to climb above 10k, the shorts dropped off even more.
