If you’ve done open-source development, you probably know it can often be a fruitless work. I really believe that people should be rewarded for their efforts and so I have to say the current means with which open-source developments work needs to be improved. Even though I took no action to improve the situation, Cardstack is.

In my previous article, I explained that Cardstack lets anyone combine the important functions of many technological services into a stack, and so you end up with a stack of important features from many different services. But Cardstack has a greater ambition which involves becoming the ecosystem for the best technological developments and to do that it needs to attract great talent. Luckily for Cardstack, there’s lots of great developers out there who are overwhelmingly under-rewarded.

You know what these talented developers do? They work on open-source projects.

Cardstack Brings Fair Rewards

Cardstack will provide open source developers an ecosystem where they can provide their services and get fair rewards based on how much the service they developed gets used.

The best part about this is that open source development doesn’t require a centralized authority to issue tasks since people simply spot an opportunity or a market gap and they fill it up. I think this makes it possible for anyone with some ambitious drive (and of course programming skills) to pick up a side-project on Cardstack. In the past, people didn’t opt for this because open-source developments weren’t very profitable.

I am seeing a future where anyone anywhere in the world could just pick up a laptop and see that there is an opportunity to provide something of use and if the person provides it on Cardstack, the rewards are guaranteed. What Cardstack is proposing can make sure the world is able to benefit from the skills and potential of the world. Right now you will usually need to be part of a big technology firm to get guaranteed money for an important development. This is obviously not a realistic possibility for a lot of people. But now everyone has the opportunity to bring value through Cardstack’s ecosystem and be assured that if what they make is really valuable, they’ll be rewarded. This isn’t just going to be good for developers, but also for Cardstack. Being able to gather so much talent in a single environment isn’t an easy task but by simply providing an ecosystem where anyone can join and reap the fair rewards of their work, Cardstack is going to bring in the interest of anyone with the potential to make something great. As more developers make great developments within this ecosystem, Cardstack itself becomes more competitive and more valuable.
