[0209] Ecomi:'Digital Collectibles' Are Big Business

in #bitcoin6 years ago (edited)

Back in post #176 and #177, I previewed #Ecomi. A suite of different digital apps and hardware, built on the blockchain.

The reason I wrote two articles and now a 3rd is because Ecomi are offering several, very different products as part of their ecosystem. And each one is interesting in its own right.

The review in post #176 ( link below ) covered the entire range in brief and post #177 focused on the credit card sized cold wallet. A product that deserved its own post because it may well just give Ledger and Trezor a run for their money.

Now I want to talk about Ecomis other product, the digital collectibles app.

Digital Collectibles = Big Business

Being a comic book nerd from way back, I can see the potential of Ecomi's collectibles app.

While a cold wallet will appeal to bitcoin investors and has a serious use case, it's the digital collectibles that will make Ecomi the most money.

By far.

Back when I was seriously collecting comics ( now I just read them ), getting your hands on mint condition, limited print run comics direct from the publisher meant that you could potentially make a lot of money if you HODL'd them properly.

Which meant no finger prints, no dog eared corners and storage in acid free plastic covers for two decades. The serious comic collectors then stored them in a fallout shelter 60' below the ground. But I never got that serious. My mother made me fill in the hole in our backyard...

Nowadays, printed comic books are not as big as they once were, just as printed newspapers aren't. Print media is still somewhat popular, yes. But digital print is where the market has gone, making dog eared corners and acid stains a thing of the past.

Ecomi

Digital comics and related spin offs from movies, collector cards and computer gaming are now all merging together into the one, digital marketplace.

In 5 years, the blockchain technology will have merged these markets together and apps like this one will be the marketplace for a plethora of digital entertainment products. So you will be able to sell items you found in one game and buy yourself a lambo, if the market is there.

The market potential of this one dApp alone is huge for Ecomi. I am sure they know it too.

Even if they just had this one app, they would still make a killing. But given they have a cold wallet on the market, along with their other product line, it makes Ecomi something of a bigger deal than if they had one product alone.

If you don't see the market potential of digital collectibles, just look at CryptoKitties as one rough example. And the $80,000 USD crazy price tag some of those cats were sold for. Digital collectibles are big business ( albeit, insane ), especially in Japan and throughout Asia where high density living causes collectors to prefer digital rather than physical items.

The digital collectibles / gaming market is only going to expand as digital toys are published on the blockchain. Everything from digital trading cards to gaming items will eventually be traded via an app just like this one.

In short, this is a gold mine. It really is.

Interestingly, Ecomi spoke about premium licences in a recent interview and named some pretty big companies who may be licensing their products to Ecomi. Given that Ecomi has 'first mover advantage' in the collectibles market, that means companies would be lining up at their door wanting to do deals.

Premium content means 'expensive digital toys' to you and me. Which will no doubt prove lucrative to Ecomi when they get the ball rolling.

Their first ( big ) partner is with #TokiDoki, the cartoon company with a product line that has achieved cult status. TokiDoki is a big brand that sells handbags as well as a range of lifestyle products and are a company that has big partnerships with companies like Marvel, Barbie and other well known brands.

That partnership, by itself, is huge. Let alone any other that Ecomi bring on board.

As I mentioned earlier, the market for digital collectibles is huge and is only growing bigger as the technology evolves.

So Ecomi are well placed to take advantage and enter the digital market with a bang.
