Snowden: Privacy and Bitcoin, at Bitcoin 2019 Conference

in #bitcoin5 years ago

It was an incredible honor for me to introduce Snowden at Bitcoin 2019 this year. He was the most wonderful speaker, and focused on privacy in his talk: the importance of privacy, the difficulty of achieving it, and how "lack of privacy is an existential threat to bitcoin."

He also encouraged everyone in the interest of privacy to deny that they own any Bitcoin.

Thank you so much for sharing your time with us, Snowden.

I agree with what his saying but I feel crypto isn't ready just yet to push for that level of decentralisation because the state can still close off avenues on ways to buy into the currency and without a truely decentralised way to access currency or being able to barter with peers in exchange in such a way that its not hard to find a crypto owner online or offline its still a problem of how we get and distribute value.

Once we can solve that problem, I feel by all means go as decentralised as possible and move into those uncomfortable spaces where you're going to stamp on toes and become an unnerving presence to the state and corporate monopolies
