RE: Bitcoin's Uncertain Future

in #bitcoin6 years ago

Bitcoin is not legal in my country, Nepal. Few weeks ago 7 people were caught and could be facing 3 years of prison. It's certainly a let down to many people here and many have already opted out.

Sort:

Governments 'terrorizing' citizens - that will backfire long term.

This makes me very sad.

That's unfortunate that a country that might benefit so much from this technology would be deprived of it. The good news is, they can't stop it forever.

Definitely. We have no means of international purchases. Credit cards, master cards, Paypal, nothing. Bitcoin was a hope for us until the the government released an official statement and deemed it illegal.

Oh yes... I had students in Iran in a similar situation. They had to buy prepaid visa cards on the black market to trade.

There are decentralised exchanges, though still young, http://bisq.network is one of them. For those willing to risk reprimand, there are ways around overbearing regulations
