John Mcafee's coin of the day on Twitter. Pump´n dump? Let's find out
5 days ago John Mcafee started with something he called "coin of the day" where he namedrops a coin which he allegedly has done his research on. I'm not saying the coins he mention are bad, but let's just see how much of a pump and dump effect it has.
21st December - Electroneum
This one pumped 0,077 to 0,11 immediately after he namedropped it his tweet. Thats over 20% jump. It fell back to 0,08 after two days, then stabilized around 0,09. I wouldn't say it pumped and dumped that much.
22nd December Burst
Burst went from 0,025 on december 22nd to 0,095 the day after. That's close to a 200% gain in one day. That's most definitely a pump. It fell back to 0,05 and then stabilized at 0,07. So a big pump, but only a small dump.
23rd December Digitbyte
Before Mcafee 0,055. After Tweet 0,08. 30% up, stabilized around 0,065. Not a huge pump or dump.
24th December Reddcoin
0,0095 before Mcafee - 0,019 after tweet. That's a pretty big pump with over 100% gain after his tweet. Today it kept going till 0,022 before settling around 0,0167.
December 25th Humaniq
0,45 before tweet and 0,98 after tweet. more than 100% up. Back to 0,61. Pretty much pump and dump.
Conclution
IMO there are pretty clear pump´n dump tendencies. All coins pump 30-200% with a mean of around 60% before settling slightly higher than where they were. It looks to me like the coins he's promoting are getting a boost, but all of them enter a pump'n dump before going back up, but not hitting former highs that occured during the pump.
Mcafee certainly has knowledge and I'm going to look seriously into the coins he's promoting. But I won't be buying into his pump'n dump tweets. Rather wait for the coins to fall a little bit and then buy in.

I also noticed this happening and I think that no matter who makes the reccomendation of a coin it's still necessary to do your own research as you say
Verge was a pretty good pick. Like the others, a two day pump, then a dump, but now coming back up a bit to stabilise. Given its market cap and the impending Wraith Protocol it could bounce nicely. Wait and see.
Would be nice to have a list of coins he's gonna tweet about beforehand. Whats the bet Mcaffe puts the sale orders on just before tweeting ;)
Looks really weird, but there might be still opportunity in his recommendations. I like your approach and strategy.
I have noticed the same trend and also have not been buying into the coins just specifically because he mentions them. Also, most of the coins that he promotes have such a high amount of circulating/total supply and the market cap just does not show the potential to reach a level that is much further than it reaches with that pump.
