How to Get Started With Bitcoin Mining (cpu/gpu) (nvidia only)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #bitcoin7 years ago

I know this is a bit off topic from what I have been posting but I just started mining with my new 1060 6gb and at first I had no clue what to do so I thought this might help some people get started aswell.

I personally found that nicehash was the easiest to set up and is very straight forward for new comers to the topic. To get started with nicehash I would first recommend going to the nicehash performance calculator https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator and find your gpu/cpu to check if you can actually make profit. note some gpus/cpus that are not listed here can still be profitable, for example the 1060 3gb is still very profitable

To use the calculator start by selecting your gpu (black arrow) then change the currency to your currency (red arrow), and finally change the kw/h to your electricity cost (blue arrow). once you do this you will have a decent idea of what your gpu/cpu can do in terms of mining potential.

once you have done this step go to the nicehash download page https://miner.nicehash.com/, from here you need to select if you have an amd or an nvidia gpu. for nvidia select the first option (red arrow) and for amd the second option (blue arrow).

Now that you have the miner start by deciding if you want to stick with the nicehash built in miner or make an external wallet, this is up to you but I would recommend taking a few extra minutes to make an external wallet for extra security. Now if you are sticking with the nicehash wallet you need to make an account on the nicehash website.

once you have made your account your account we can go back to the miner app, and you can start by adding your wallet (red arrow) which if you are using the nicehash wallet is simply using your nicehash email address, followed by adding your worker (blue arrow) which is simply naming your worker so you can easily identify it while reviewing statistics on the nicehash site.

If you have decided to make an external wallet to store your bountiful bitcoins :D you need to find a bitcoin wallet which satisfies your needs, I am not going to go into detail but if you don't want to do all the research I found that using exodus wallet is very easy https://www.exodus.io/releases/.

t7.PNG

Once you have installed exodus it is as simple as going to the bitcoin wallet tab and click the receive button to get your payout bitcoin address (the send button is used for transferring your bitcoin once it is in your wallet).

Now that you have your address go back to the nicehash miner and click on the add wallet button then click use bitcoin address and paste your receiving address.

t10.PNG

Now that you have setup your chosen wallet you are almost done, to complete the setup of your miner you need to go back to nicehash miner and click on hardware details.

t11.PNG

Then you need to select which hardware you will be mining with and benchmark them by clicking benchmark all and select standard note if some benchmarks fail click the drop down icon on your hardware and tick only the ones that failed and re-benchmark them on the precise setting.

t12.PNG

Once your benchmarks are finished you can start mining! :D go to the configure settings and setup your currency and whatever other settings you wish to use.

t13.PNG

You can now go back to the main page of nicehash miner and click start :D.

t14.PNG

Now that you have started mining you can view your statistics by logging into the nicehash website and going to dashboard, note you have to reach 0.001 bitcoin to cashout which at the moment is around 13 aud

Thanks so much for reading my tutorial and as usual :L don't roast too hard XD.
