Three Places to Buy Precious Metals with Bitcoin

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

When Amagi Metals began accepting Bitcoin for Precious Metals (Silver & Gold) it was a game-changer for cryptocurrency. Once you could buy real money (silver and gold is real money, that fiat stuff is not) with Bitcoin, no one could quibble anymore that Bitcoin was just a geek fad for computer nerds. You could pull a silver coin out of your pocket, place it in the palm of a doubter's hand, and say Feel that? That's real money. I bought it with Bitcoin!

Amagi was the first, and I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for them. Here is their web address:

When they first started accepting Bitcoin for Bullion, there were the inevitable bugs to be squashed. The great thing about Amagi is their customer service. There is always someone polite and helpful to call on the phone. They maintained a presence on Bitcoin Talk as well.

So, you have to hand it to Amagi for being the first. But now they have competition. They are no longer the only game in town. Agora Commodities was next. It didn't take long for Agora to become top dog in the Bitcoin for Bullion world, as they offered more specials and more selection than Amagi. When Agora changed their name to Veldt Gold last year, they announced a silver special where you could buy silver at a discount with Bitcoin. That special is now over, but you can bet ten ounces of silver that your precious metal loving pal Roomerkind was all over that! I felt guilty for abandoning my first love Amagi, but the Veldt deal was just too tasty to pass up. Here is the Veldt Gold website:

Notice that you can also sell your precious metals to Veldt for Bitcoin, and Veldt also accepts Litecoin and Ethereum.

Finally, there's Provident Metals. Now that Provident has jumped on the Bitcoin for Bullion bandwagon, there's no doubt that Bitcoin is as real (some would say more real) as that fiat $20 scrap of paper in your wallet. Provident is one of the big ol' boys of bullion, and their selection can't be beat. Of the three, Provident is the only company that I haven't actually bought anything online from myself, but I have met these guys at coin shows and their reputation among bullion dealers is solid. I would have no qualms about buying from them. Provident is hot in pursuit of the crypto crowd with a 3% discount if you pay with Bitcoin. Here is the Provident Metals website:

One pro tip concerning buying bullion online with bitcoin: Make sure your bitcoin wallet is open and running when you go shopping. When you buy bullion with bitcoin online, the shopping cart is set up such that you have a fifteen minute window to send your bitcoin at checkout. What with the Bitcoin network recently being crowded with traffic and even being laggy sometimes, you will need every minute of that quarter hour. Sending your bitcoins and then having the network lag while your fifteen minutes runs out can leave you feeling queasy. I know, it has happened to me. Fortunately when it did happen I was able to contact customer service and have it resolved. I can vouch for the helpful customer service at Amagi and Veldt, but since I have never bought from Provident I can not offer an opinion on their customer service.

Sell precious metals and buy crypto.

What if the electric grid goes down or the internet goes down?

Goes down but never fail and what if confiscate precious metals.

Precious metals are easy to hide. Confiscation won't happen but if it did many people would simply hide their metal. Also even when confiscation did happen here in the USA in 1933, collectible coins and jewelry was exempt. But honestly this is another discussion. Personally I don't think confiscation is possible. It would be much easier for the government to come down hard on cryptocurrency. That is more likely than confiscation by a long shot.

Any thing is risky.

Buying gold is the least risky investment I can think of!

Gold fell from $2200 to $1200 past 2 years.

An ounce of gold is still an ounce of gold, my friend. Us gold bugs don't care what the fiat number is. Gold had value 2,000 years ago all over the planet, and will still have value 2,000 years from now all over the planet. You can't say that about anything else.

Another place is JM Bullion. I bought their starter pack!
