I don't really see that as a good sign so much as governments being out of touch as usual.

Of all the times to start officially recognizing bitcoin legally now seems like the worst possible time to do so given the uncertainty over Aug 1st.

but if it all works out wouldnt it be better than now?

I do think it's likely we'll come out in a better spot overall, but the uncertainty over "what is bitcoin" is not going to help the public perception over things. Since the laws typically cover cryptocurrency in generic ways rather than trying to specifically label Bitcoin maybe it isn't an issue.

But with all the news saying "X legalizes bitcoin" it will cause a lot of confusion if we end up with a fork and two different viable chains.
