I was just browsing through the news about cybersecurity and came across this article:

As a person interested and heavily invested in Bitcoin, I pay big attention to cybersecurity, this is not a joke, it is a real financial threat. So I hope everyone who has Bitcoins pays attention to it, because if not then your money will get stolen.

It is fascinating how far hackers can go to steal your money. And let's not forget that most of these hackers are state sponsored ones, essentially we are in a cyberwar, and enemy governments are targeting your government's citizenry.

They are hacking banks, social media, any online platform that has any value and can cause financial damage.

So basically governments are fighting with eachother in the cyberspace, while the citizens get the damage. You are just an asset of your government, and an enemy government by hurting you, hurts the property of your government. It's no longer tanks, now it's only bits.

Yes, it's the typical generals shout at eachother at the top and the soldiers die in the trenches type of scenario.

But listen to this (quote from the article):

Attackers won’t just steal data — they will change it
Today’s savvy attackers are moving away from pure data theft and website hacking to attacks that have a subtler target: data integrity. They will use their ability to hack information systems not just to make a quick buck but also to cause long-term, reputational damage to individuals or groups through the erosion of trust in the data itself.

So we know about the ransomwares and crap like that, but now they can change the data instead of stealing it. For example if you generate a bitcoin address on your computer, and you send money to it, only to find out that you "accidentally" sent that money to a hacker's address.

Yea so a sophisticated malware changed the bitcoin destination address in your computer's memory, while it was signed, and you just sent away your money to the hacker. It could totally happen, in fact it already did happen in the past:

The only thing that is worse than this is an AI virus, which the article also mentions:

The next generation of AI-powered attacks to emerge will use customized code to emulate the behaviors of specific users to fool even skilled security personnel. This includes the ability to craft sophisticated and bespoke phishing campaigns that will successfully dupe even the most threat-conscious employee.

So a "smart" malware will identity the weakpoints in your computer's system, and exploit it in all ways possible, from embedding automated data thefts, to all kinds of disruption, like fabricating false evidence that will incriminate you in a crime that you did not do. Truly scary.
