Summary Of Today's News:

Bitcoin and the rest of the market rally. Bitcoin funds raised for the Winter Olympics. Litecoin jumps up nearly 30% thanks to LitePay announcement. Ripple scores another financial deal. Blockchain and Crypto companies gaining recognition. Read all about it below!

1. Bitcoin rises 9% to 10-day high above $9,000

Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/02/14/bitcoin-rises-9-percent-to-10-day-high-above-9000.html

Key Highlights:

  • "Bitcoin climbed 9.7 percent to $9,346, its highest since Feb. 4, according to CoinDesk's bitcoin price index, which tracks prices from four major exchanges."

  • "Analysts also said that comments by financial regulators last week before the Senate Banking Committee that balanced regulation with consumer protection are helping prices recover."

Crypto Phil's Take:

Great to see Bitcoin, and thus the rest of the market, recovering as well. As covered in my post yesterday, some analysts were worried that if Bitcoin didn't show a strong show of force and break through $9000, we could potentially see the downtrend continue. Happy to see that we got that strong rally and hopefully it continues and pushes back above 10k.

2. Bitcoin Luges Its Way Into Winter Olympics

Key Highlights:

  • "...the latest edition of the Winter Olympics will see the USA luge team become a champion for Bitcoin in what could be a first for cryptocurrency in the sport."

  • "The team claims to be the first US Olympic group to set up its own Bitcoin wallet to accept donations. It’s a move that is synonymous with the spirit of luge, high speed and fraught with danger."

Crypto Phil's Take:

Good news for Bitcoin adoption and just further shows there's not turning back on the cryptocurrency train. It also coincides nicely with today's market rally.

3. Litecoin Price Surges On News Of LTC-Fiat Payment Service And ‘Scam’ Hard Fork

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/litecoin-price-surges-on-news-of-ltc-fiat-payment-service-and-scam-hard-fork

Key Highlights:

  • "Litecoin (LTC) outperformed all major cryptocurrency assets Wednesday, Feb. 14, jumping over 30 percent against the US dollar on combined LTC payment service and hard fork news."

  • "...a company called LitePay announced Monday, Feb. 12, that it would release the service on Feb. 26."

Crypto Phil's Take:

Great news for LTC holders as Litecoin was hit particularly hard during the recent crash. I'm still not sure where I stand with Litecoin long term however, as I could see Bitcoin with lightning network making Litecoin unnecessary. However, there's no denying that this is good news for Litecoin today.

4. Ripple Partners With Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority To Offer Pilot Program For Banks

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/ripple-partners-with-saudi-arabian-monetary-authority-to-offer-pilot-program-for-banks

Key Highlights:

  • "Ripple has announced an agreement today, Feb. 14, with the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) to provide support for Ripple’s cross-border payments technology to banks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)."

  • "Ripple has partnerships with over 100 financial institutions, most recently last week partnering with LianLian International, a China-based payment services provider."

Crypto Phil's Take:

It seems like a week doens't go by without Ripple announcing some new major partnership. Which obviously is very good for long term adoption of the coin. I'm definitely bullish on XRP.

5. Forbes' ‘Fintech 50 For 2018’ List Includes 11 Blockchain & Crypto Companies

Source: https://cointelegraph.com/news/forbes-fintech-50-for-2018-list-includes-11-blockchain-crypto-companies

Key Highlights:

  • "In Forbes' third edition of the “Fintech 50”, a list of the top 50 financial technology companies globally of 2018, released on Feb. 13, eleven of the companies listed use Blockchain technology or are connected to the cryptocurrency industry."

  • "Forbes' site has a separate article breaking down the influence of Blockchain and crypto companies that made the Fintech 50 list."

Crypto Phil's Take:

While I wouldn't call Forbes any sort of industry authority, it's a well known news website and this can only help with spreading good news about cryptocurrency and long term adoption.
