The NY Stock Exchange shows interest in bitcoins futures

A New York Times report reveals the possible intentions of the New York Stock Exchange regarding the launch of a currency exchange for bitcoin futures.

According to comments, the plans come from the hand of 'Intercontinental Exchange' (ICE) - the family business of the New York Stock Exchange - who apparently has plans to launch a bitcoin exchange for large investors.

ICE also revealed that it intends to enable a 'Swap' contract, which will allow other financial institutions to obtain cash flow with bitcoins without making an immediate exchange, which will be supported by the security parameters of the exchange.

According to the NYT:

The swap contract is more complicated than an immediate transaction of dollars to Bitcoins, even if the final result is still the property of a certain amount of this cryptocurrency. But these contracts allow the negotiation to be under the regulation of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and to operate clearly under existing laws, something that today's Bitcoin exchanges have had problems to achieve.

On several occasions, ICE had expressed interest in establishing a Swap contract with Ethers, but had to cancel its plans due to constant legal uncertainty.

Other major industries that have confirmed their interest in trading with cryptocurrencies have been Nasdaq and Goldman Sachs.

Last April, Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman said the company would be willing to open a cryptocurrency exchange house in the future, but only when the market around them has matured enough.

Likewise, the previous week, Goldman Sachs reported on its interest to use its own money to carry out transactions with customers, through a variety of contracts associated with the price of bitcoin, such as futures contracts.
