Recently, electric car company Tesla purchased $1.5 billion worth ofbitcoin, and is studying the use of bitcoin as a payment method for goods and services. One of its biggest competitorsgeneral motors(General Motors) now stands up and says that although it will not invest in digital assets in the short term, it will pay close attention to customer needs and consider that it may allow the use of Bitcoin to buy goods in the company in the future.

Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors, said:
"We have no plans to invest in Bitcoin at present. In the future, we will monitor and evaluate it. If there is a strong demand from customers in the future, then nothing can stop us from doing so. "

When Bitcoin was first created, it was not designed as a speculative financial instrument as it is now. On the contrary, it is made into a kind ofpayMoney, people can use it instead of legal tender or credit card and debit card.

However, over the years, this asset has proved to be extremely unstable, and most retailers do not accept this currency.

But recently, this situation seems to be changing. Tesla is considering allowing bitcoin as a payment method. Twitter followed, and now GM seems to be the next company to consider Bitcoin as a substitute for dollars.

GM is considering the possibility of bitcoin payment, which is a step in the right direction, but the company also made it clear that it will not consider investing in bitcoin in the near future. This shows that institutional investors still have prejudice against Bitcoin.

Companies such as Tesla and MicroStrategy have already bought billions of dollars in bitcoin. Square and MassMutual have also made considerable investments in it, but GM will not consider investing in Bitcoin in the short term, which indicates that the reputation of Bitcoin has not been fully improved.

In addition, many companies investing in Bitcoin seem to realize that there are still risks in this asset. Tesla warned investors in its latest document submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that Bitcoin is still a highly volatile asset.
