JAPAN, bitcoin transaction FREEZE preparing, that means what? | 일본 비트코인 거래 일시 중지 검토, 그 의미는?

Recently, the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association (JCBA) has been preparing for a freeze on bitcoin transaction since August 1. August 1 is widely known as the UASF day.

UASF (User Activated Soft Fork)

UASF is a mandatory segwit implementation by users. Here the users are general users and exchanges with bitcoin wallets. When the UASF is activated on August 1, all bitcoin transactions that do not turn on the segwit signal are rejected by the UASF node, ie, the wallets of users and the exchanges.

For example, let us suppose that you send bitcoin from Wallet A to Wallet B. Wallet A does not support segwit, while Wallet B supports segwit. In this case, Wallet B does not accept the transaction. In the end, although Wallet A sends bitcoin, but Wallet B does not consider the bitcoin transmitted. This process forces chain split.

Chain Reorganization

Chain split by UASF can be terminated in the following cases:

1. It can be terminated by attracting majority of miners to UASF chain before November 15. Chain reorganization will consider the UASF chain to the main, which has a longer concentration of hash power.

2. If the UASF chain can not collect enough hash powers by November 15, it will terminate automatically. After the chain reorganization process, the legacy bitcoin chain will be recognized as the main.

Chain reorganization simply recognizes the longer chain as the main after the chain split. Chains that fail to become the main will disappear. This means that all transactions in the sub block chain are lost.

UASF paradox

UASF enforces chain split based on support from many users. In this process, transaction fee will attract miners, but users will be reluctant to send bitcoin due to chain split. This is because if your coins will not be selected by chain reorg., your coins will disappear. It is a good example why JCBA is preparing on a freeze of transactions since UASF.

JCBA will consider freezing bitcoin transaction for up to one week, but I doubt whether it will be enough in a week.

예를 들어 A 지갑에서 B 지갑으로 비트코인을 전송하더라도 A 지갑이 세그윗을 지원하지 않으면 세그윗을 지원하는 B 지갑은 해당 전송 내역을 인정하지 않습니다. 결국 A 지갑에서는 비트코인이 전송했지만, B 지갑에서는 해당 비트코인을 전송받은 것으로 간주하지 않습니다. 이 과정에서 강제적으로 체인 분리가 일어납니다.

Chain Reorganization

UASF에 의한 체인 분리는 다음과 같은 경우에 종료될 수 있습니다.

1. 2017년 11월 15일 이전에 다수 마이너들을 UASF 체인으로 끌어들임으로써 종료 가능합니다. Chain reorganization은 다수 마이너들의 해시 파워가 집중되어 더 길게 연결된 UASF 체인을 메인으로 인정할 것입니다.

2. 2017년 11월 15일까지 UASF 체인이 다수의 해시 파워를 모으지 못할 경우 자동 종료됩니다. 이후, chain reorganization 과정 후에 legacy 비트코인 체인이 메인으로 인정될 것입니다.

Chain reorganization은 체인 분리시 단순하게 더 긴 체인을 메인으로 인정합니다. 메인이 되지 못한 체인은 사라집니다. 이것은 메인이 되지 못한 블록 체인의 모든 거래 내역이 사라진다는 것을 의미합니다.

UASF의 역설

UASF는 다수 유저들의 지지를 바탕으로 강제적으로 체인 분리를 시행합니다. 이 과정에서 UASF 체인의 전송 요금을 미끼로 마이너들을 끌어들이려 하는데, 오히려 유저들은 체인 분리 때문에 비트코인 전송을 꺼리게 될 것입니다. 왜냐하면 chain reorg.에 의해 선택받지 못할 경우 자신의 전송 기록이 모조리 사라질 수 있기 때문입니다. JCBA가 UASF 이후 거래 중지를 검토하는 이유가 좋은 예입니다.

현재 JCBA는 최장 일주일까지 비트코인 거래 중지를 검토하겠다고 하는데, 일주일이면 충분할지에 대해서도 의문입니다.
