I do not think Coinbase will succeed in Japan as most western financial institutions have not been able to enter that market because of cultural changes. They have a very well established cryptocurrency industry that some same is more advanced than the US. Coinbase, with their lack of asset offering will not be able to compete unless they buy an established exchange there.
