Online MMO gets marketplace on blockchain

in #bitcoin4 years ago

Game studio Darewise has integrated blockchain trading platform Dmarket into its upcoming MMO game Life Beyond. The studio sells three founders' packs, priced at 40, 70 and 150 dollars for the massively multiplayer online game. Even though the trading platform uses a distributed ledger, items can only be bought using credit cards, mobile payments or online payment solutions like Paypal and Amazon Pay.

Items found in these packs are already available for trading on the same marketplace. Prices range from a player card banner for $3.16 to a $147 voucher for in-game currencies. In addition gamers can trade skins for Counter-Strike GO and Dota 2, as well as a variety of other games and projects.

Dmarket is a trading platform for community-driven economies. Darewise wants to use the platform to build its game, also allowing gamers to make money selling items acquired by farming or crafting.

What is Life Beyond?

Life Beyond is an open world experience focused on community building. This always-on alternate reality offers a place for everyone, regardless of your play-style or time commitment. In this online multiplayer the people of earth have found a mysterious uncharted world. On Corvus, players will find secrets, untold riches and opportunity for all.

Players can gather resources, which in turn influences that ecosystems teeming with life. They can accept contracts from other players to score in-game clout and currency. In addition they can craft and trade valuable materials, weapons, tools, vehicles and more in a largely player-driven economy. Combat takes place between opposing clans and native creatures, on foot or in vehicles.

What's DMarket?

DMarket uses distributed ledger technology to track ownership over digital in-game items. The platform has its own blockchain, wallets and corresponding private keys. With a 12 million dollar market cap Dmarket Coin (DMC) is one of the smaller projects mentioned on Coinmarketcap. DMC can for example be traded on exchanges like Upbit, Bittrex and IDEX. Currently one DMC is $0.2179.

First players connect for example their Steam account to the platform, and from that point forward ownership will be tracked. DMarket is not affiliated with Steam, but yet allows trading of CS:GO and Dota 2 skins and items.

Life Beyond and DMarket integrate even a bit more. The free-to-play MMO game provides access to the online market from within its game client. As a result players can switch between their game and the online marketplace with just one click. Therefore gamers are able to upgrade their characters or sell items without ever leaving the game.

Keep in mind, this is not a competitor of Enjin. Even though DMarket also offers a marketplace, Enjin is more aimed at interoperability between games. This is not possible by definition with the items sold on DMarket.
