183 bitcoin gets you a church in England
Bitcoin whales with a fascination for history or an dream to live in a church can buy one in England. A church in the English town of Darlington is currently on sale for 1.2 million pounds and paid with 182.65 bitcoin. However, the final price in bitcoin will be determined on the market valuation of bitcoin at the time of sale.
The church has been renovated into a house, there are even plans to add more floor in the main area. Currently it has an open living area, kitchen and dining room in one, a games room, multiple bedrooms, bathroom and more. The St Laurence's Church is from 1871. Darlington based architect JP Pritchett was the one who designed it.
This is obviously a lighthearted post. However, it shows that bitcoin is more than just a currency to trade with. In the past we've seen plenty of examples of real estate being sold for bitcoin.
Bitcoin and real estate
In the past I've dedicated an entire article to awesome villas that can be bought with bitcoin. There's even an example of an historical building on Malta that could only be bought with the digital currency.
The most impressive project that's for sale in exchange for bitcoin, is 'The Bitcoin House'. This is a self-sustaining next generation over-the-top mansion. It costs 189 million dollars, which would currently take almost 24 thousand bitcoin.
This gigantic villa has enough mining hardware built-in to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bitcoin. Actually, according to the creator of the house, the mining hardware would generate 50 BTC per month. The idea is that the house generates the electricity and the money to live. It has three levels with 11 total bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, two kitchens, a wine cellar, a garage for 8 to 10 cars, movie theater for 12 people, three pools, jacuzzis, balconies, an atrium at the center of the building with an indoor pool, and of course a family room, pantry, walk-in closets and so on.
