5.5 Years Prison Time For Bitcoin Exchange Operator

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Do you remember coin.mx? Me either. Apparently the exchange was being used to launder money and this guy (Anthony Murgio) was aware of it, and by extension was complicit in the crime. The exchange operated for a couple of years, which is why I am surprised I didn't hear about it, although I am sure many of you have.

These guys were using the platform to conduct ransomware attacks with the criminals conveniently demanding to be paid in bitcoin, I wonder who was processing those transactions?

It really raises some of the issues with the unregulated aspect of this world we live in, of course the positive aspects offset this. There are more details available on Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-cyber-jpmorgan-murgio-idUSKBN19I2JM?il=0

Thoughts, do you expect to see more of the shadier side of this industry being prosecuted and sentenced to jail?

Cheers @moneybags
