Microsoft stops accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment for products and services

The information was confirmed by the news agency CryptoCoinNews, whose representatives contacted company spokesmen who confirmed the rumors.

Reports circulating in the Reddit section related to Bitcoin suggest that the technology giant, Microsoft, apparently stopped accepting payments in the cryptocurrency. Various theories claim that the company is following in Steam's footsteps by not receiving Bitcoin payments. These rumors arise because of an article published on the Bleeping Computer portal, which states that the main software and hardware company stopped the BTC payments.

In another post made on Reddit was attached a publication that indicated that several users did not find in the Microsoft portal the option of payments with Bitcoin. Comments allude to the belief that payments made by small merchants would not make sense for Microsoft at this time if they are made in the digital currency. Despite all this information, the company has not yet issued an official statement confirming the above.

On the other hand, in another message posted on the social network, other users claimed that they could still charge US dollars to their accounts using Bitcoin balances for that purpose. In this publication they dismissed the criticisms and accusations made by various people who claimed that Microsoft had closed the door to the digital currency.

To verify the reported complaints, the press team of CryptoCoinsNews made a test entering the platform and tried to make a purchase with Bitcoin balances, before which it was confirmed that the option of payments with the digital currency was disabled.

When communicating with the customer service, they were informed that the company in effect no longer accepted Bitcoin as a payment option. Apparently the company decided to adopt this measure from July 2017.

Likewise, a member of the Microsoft Billing team confirmed that the company had stopped receiving payments in the digital currency due to "multiple problems associated with the transfers", however, no further information was received.

At the moment Microsoft still keeps active the section of instructions on its website, which explains to users how to recharge their accounts with Bitcoin balances, but the same official claimed that this process no longer works since three of each five customers had problems when making their payments.

It is convenient to remember that this would not be the first time that Microsoft stops accepting Bitcoin payments, since in 2016 this measure was taken but shortly after the company apologized for the mistake and announced that the digital currency was still a means of payment valid.

Microsoft originally began accepting Bitcoin through the BitPay payment processor in December 2014. This announcement was received with great enthusiasm by members of the Bitcoin community, as the company joined the growing group of companies comprised mainly of Dell, Newegg and TigerDirect in adopting the cryptocurrency.
