Software giant Microsoft said that Blockchain technology sees the potential for supporting decentralized identities and will explore integrated possibilities within the Microsoft Authenticator application.

In a blog post published on February 12th, the company's identity department doubled the belief that Blockchain technology was the right solution to protect users' cookies and store, protect and share in a decentralized environment.

Microsoft pursues Blockchain technology
Ankur Patel in Microsoft's Identification Department said in the message, "Some of the secret Blockchaines (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin) have solid footing to create a solid foundation for DIDs, to record and certify DPKI operations."

However, the company acknowledged that it was a major obstacle before the decentralization of scaling so that millions of users could be used at the same time. Thus, the company announced that it is beginning to develop additional layers to reach its goal of scaling.

"We are collaborating on decentralized Layer 2 protocols that work on these generic Blockchains to achieve the global scale and maintain the features of a worldwide DID system to come from the top of these technical barriers," Patel said.

Integrated experiments will soon begin
For now, the company will experiment with decentralized identities by adding support for the Microsoft Authenticator application already used by millions of people around the world. In the blog post he wrote:

"There is a need for a secure, encrypted digital hub that allows a wide range of applications and services to be deployed, broadly spreading identity information across multiple providers, and enabling individuals to store their credentials and facilitate access to it."

The announcement was published shortly after Microsoft's Blockchain alliance joined Hyperldger, the project of the United Nations ID2020 initiative. Hyperledger aims to achieve a scalable, secure and verifiable digital identification system.

Technology giant has donated $ 1 million to the ID2020 initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos last month.
