Más volátiles que Bitcoin - More volatile than Bitcoin

Estamos acostumbrados a leer y escuchar que Bitcoin es uno de los "activos" más volátiles que existen actualmente. No le falta razón a quien escribe esas conclusiones, pero también hay que destacar que aunque no lo parezca, hay activos tradicionales, y concretando más, divisas que son muy volátiles, mucho más que Bitcoin.

We are used to reading and hearing that Bitcoin is one of the most volatile "assets" that currently exist. There is no lack of reason to who writes these conclusions, but it should also be noted that although it may not seem so, there are traditional assets, and more concretely, currencies that are very volatile, much more than Bitcoin.

Voy a poner dos ejemplos de dos divisas que superan la volatilidad de Bitcoin. Hay muchos ejemplos, pero voy a hablar del bolívar venezolano y de la lira turca porque son dos monedas que últimamente están apareciendo en los medios económicos de todo el mundo.

Empezando por la lira turca, hay una crisis que ha llevado a la moneda de Turquía a devaluarse un 50% en lo que va de año. La volatilidad en la lira ha aumentado muchísimo, y está haciendo que los turcos pierdan mucho valor adquisitivo. Parece que lleva unos días calmada y que ha dejado de perder valor, pero hay que ver si recuperará antiguos niveles o se quedará donde está.

Starting with the Turkish lira, there is a crisis that has led the Turkish currency to devalue by 50% so far this year. Volatility in the lira has increased a lot, and is causing the Turks to lose a lot of purchasing power. It seems that it has been calm for a few days and that it has stopped losing value, but we must see if it will recover old levels or stay where it is.

Pero si de verdad queremos hablar del rey de la volatilidad en los mercados financieros tradicionales, tenemos que hablar del bolívar venezolano. Con una inflación que supera el 1.000.000%, Venezuela se ha convertido en el país con la inflación más alta de la historia. Se ha reducido la divisa en 5 ceros, es decir, se ha dividido por 100.000 la moneda. Es una medida que según mi opinión, servirá de maquillaje de forma temporal, no tendrá efecto positivo en la economía. Además, ahora se ha introducido una variable más, la criptomoneda Petro. No pinta bien para Venezuela por desgracia.

But if we really want to talk about the king of volatility in traditional financial markets, we have to talk about the Venezuelan bolivar. It is a measure that in my opinion, will serve as makeup temporarily, will not have a positive effect on the economy. In addition, one more variable has now been introduced, the Petro cryptocurrency. It does not look good for Venezuela unfortunately.

Las empresas tecnológicas son un buen ejemplo de la volatilidad. Cuando hablamos de tecnológicas, a todo el mundo le viene a la cabeza Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon y últimamente Netflix. Son empresas innovadoras y gigantes que forman parte del Nasdaq, el índice tecnológico de Wall Street. Pero existen cientos de empresas mucho más volátiles que hacen que el Nasdaq sea uno de los índices más volátiles del mundo, aunque, es cierto que Bitcoin es más volátil que él.

Para acabar, voy a hablar del MSCI World, menos volátil que Bitcoin. Hablo aquí de él porque es el índice más importante y más representativo de las bolsas mundiales. Un índice a tener en cuenta si se quiere ver en líneas generales como van las bolsas de todo el mundo. En lo que va de año sube un 2%.
