Cryptocurrency exchange is robbed of Rp. 888 billion

A cryptocurrency exchange place from Japan named Zaif was robbed and suffered a loss of USD 60 million or around IDR 888 billion.

Zaif was robbed or rather hacked on September 14, and his hacking lasted for two hours. They only realized this three days later after finding a problem on the server and starting to investigate it.

Then on September 18 they confirmed that the server was hacked and reported it to the authorities.

The type of cryptocurrency stolen in the action includes bitcoin, monacoin and bitcoin cash and occurs because their digital wallets are connected to the internet.

Of the USD 60 million, nearly USD 20 million is owned by the Tech Bureau, Zaif's parent company. Now, the Tech Bureau is trying to find an injection of funds to return the robbed funds.

This hacking will certainly affect the view of Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) against crypto currencies. Because this is not the first time there has been a robbery involving the currency.

Previously there was Mt. Gox, which lost almost all of its bitcoin deposits in the theft that occurred in 2014, resulted in them being bankrupt, and until now its consumers are still waiting for their money to be returned.

Then there was also a theft at Coincheck which resulted in a loss of USD 530 million last January. This theft also triggered the supervision of the Japanese FSA against crypto currencies.
