Today in Bitcoin (2017-07-08) - What do you think about Segwit2X?

in #bitcoin8 years ago (edited)

The New York Agreement between the Bitcoin companies of DCG and Bitmain (the miners of China) and it’s Segwit + 2X Hardfork plan continues to be a hot topic of discussion.

Creator of Litecoin and Former Coinbase employee Charlie Lee weighed in on the matter on twitter saying:

2 weeks is not nearly enough time to peer review consensus changing code. And 3 months is not enough time for everyone to prepare for a HF.

I really want SegWit on Bitcoin, but compromising with Segwit2x is insane in my opinion. This is how a $40B currency go down in flames. ☹️

What do you think? Do we need Segwit? Do we need a 2X hard fork? Or do we need them both? Let me know what you think in the comments and we’ll discuss your ideas on tomorrow’s show.

The price of Bitcoin was up 0.82% in the last 24 hours, with a last of 2515, a high of 2615 and a low of 2463.

Thomas thank you for everything you do.

I am becoming more and more skeptical about the 2X proposal. I think that something so important as bitcoin could really do well by moving slow and having better consensus before making massive changes.

Also I am not convinced that the New York agreement will be secure against a sybil attack as has been mentioned by Craig Wright

At least get the SegWit activated... then kick the 2MB hard fork can down the road.

Charlie Lee has his own reasons for casting shadows on BTC. Nonetheless, the fork remains a serious issue.

i think we do need the fork just as how $ETH $ETC, thanks or your insight always looking forward it it

Regardless of which route is finally decided, something has to be done. It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation imo. Thanks for the post!
