Why Bitcoin May Be More Disruptive than the InternetsteemCreated with Sketch.

Bitcoin is one of the most disruptive inventions in our lifetime. To understand this, we have to take a brief look at monetary history and how the money systems in place today are full of third party risk. Bitcoin's decentralized digital nature is the currency of the future. It's digital gold, programmable money. You can send value to anyone, anywhere in the world, immediately, and for free.

I wrote that back in 2013 when I gave a presentation at Barcamp Nashville about Bitcoin. I realized today I never shared this on Steemit, so here you go! This video has over 8k views (which is a lot for me), and all in all it's a pretty good presentation for explaining the basics of Bitcoin, and why it's important given the backdrop of what money actually is.

About 8 minutes in, I describe "my worldview" and go on to talk about Jesus' view on money manipulation. I no longer hold the same religious views as I did then, but I think the points made there are still valid, even if from a cultural history perspective.

It's fun to go through this time capsule of sorts and hear my voice from years ago during my early bitcoin days of 2013. I hope you enjoy it also. It's a 30 minute presentation.

The title is way more clickbaity/or should it be "less" clickbaity than it ought to be, considering the content is GREAT.

Thanks for posting!

Yeah, I got a lot of flack for the title when I originally did the presentation, but I think I make a good argument for it. We're less than 4 years later, so I think the jury's still out as to whether or not I was right and the title is justified. :)

Thanks for watching.

Considering how Bitcoin created the entire cryptocurrency space, which now includes Steemit.... I think it's safe to say it's been prrreetty damn influential already.

I also remember back when there wasn't even other apps for android that you could use to send money with! It's huge, for sure.

Interesting to read about your shift in religious perspectives Luke. I underwent a dramatic change myself away from Christianity. It took several years for the transformation to unfold after decades of living that lifestyle.

I'm going to be flying out of Nashville to attend Anarchapulco next Feb. If you still live near there it would be great to meet you in person if you have the time.

Watching the video now. I agree, blockchain tech has the potential to have an even bigger impact on humanity than the Internet. It's up to us to see to it that it becomes the tool for greater good we know it can be. We need to educate as many as we can about it so they will be prepared for the disinformation and manipulation those who might want to turn it into a tool for even further enslavement will try to employ.

Yeah, having worked in full-time ministry for 6 years, it was quite a shift for me as well.

That's cool that you'll be in Nashville. Yeah, we should connect and grab a bite to eat. Hit me up at luke.stokes @ gmail, and we can coordinate. We'll heading to Florida for a bit next month, but we should be back by then. I've wanted to go to Anarchapulco for a while now. Maybe one of these days I'll get out there.
