Popular Russian bitcoin exchange BTC-e has been down for almost 3 hours with the official twitter saying they are having a "server maintenance".

The weird thing is, they have never had maintenance works without prior announcements in the past. And coincidently, bitcoin prices have been crashing since btc-e went down.

Are they hacked and just denying the attack by calling it a maintenance job (like most hacked websites choose to do) ??

Hopefully, btc-e comes back online soon.

We are still continue to perform our unscheduled ongoing maintenance. Will keep you updated. Sorry for the inconvenience.

That can be definately one of the reasons!

Bitcoin prices have been crashing since btc-e went down.. What a coincidence!

I think that has more to do with the upcoming split. Since Bitcoin Cash is currently trading about $450, that price is coming out of Bitcoin.

someone copying the blockchain and claiming to have the 2nd BTC doesn't make it into it. it's a new coin, and I'll be watching as it seems interesting.
https://www.xbt.eu/ -> how is it a split if 100% of the network signals bip148

Miners hashing the Bitcoin Cash chain make it the real Bitcoin.

if some miners want to create a new coin that will mantain their advantage in mining (a specific chip) as in bitcoin the segwit will render their mining advantage useless... now if they create the new coin they can......... you follow right?

so people mining litecoin make it the real bitcoin
so people mining ethereum make ethereum the real bitcoin....
I'm not even going to respond to your "arguments" (arguments are backed by fact). 100% segwit support... again... if someone wants to create a new coin and call it "neo bitcoin" good for them... it has been somewhat done before... and i dont remember anyone calling those real btc

please take this advice... instead of wanting to "win" an argument. study you position and other posible positions... screaming of the top of your lungs that black is red will not make anyone take you seriously, everyone will dismiss you without.

let me clarify these basic things again...

DUMP - is done in exchanges not wallets
MINERS - MINE FFS... MINERS FUCKING MINE!!!! with x hash power
BCC - cant be "the" real bitcoin since last time i saw the real bitcoin came out somewhere in 2008

now go back to your youtube videos and invest in what they tell you to

Bitcoin is whatever is the longest chain that includes the Bitcoin Genesis block.

dude you are or very dumb of very thick either way saying bs wont make it real. hope you are lucky with the BCC futures you bought

US Govt thinks it has the right to arrest people outside their jurisdiction and shut down exchanges where people trade and steal all the funds - all in the name of preventing "money laundering".

These criminals (the United States Gov.), need to be stopped, and soon.

I hope it wasn't hacked and comes back online soon.

You think it can be hacked? It's hard to believe.

Thats what they said in the past for Mt Gox !

OMG BTE-e were hacked!! It's really shocking news for them users @liondani!!

It seems it got shut-down because they arrested the owner of the exchange with the accusation of money laundering ....
