BTC Went to 0,06USD Price due to GDAX Bug - Congratulations to Lucky Buyers!

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Some lucky guys were possible to grab BTCs today at price of 6 cents.

This happened after GDAX went into maintenance mode and after restarting allowed bots to execute bids on partially empty books.

This situation had 100 BTC volume some congrats to buyers and best luck next time for sellers.

This caused some leverage trading platforms like BitMex to have a flash crash in price.

Yet due to nature of bug BitMex decided to pay all of their users from companys own pocket for the loss caused.

So can easter can better than this ?

Wish I had been there. Damn..

Times like these and when sudden hacks lead to dumps is why I put random buy orders at really low prices with some altcoins.

Last time it happened with Augur I got some really cheap!

Good thing the ones that got liquidated will be refunded at least.

Thats a very good idea!

Yes, also called 'limit orders'.

These people was very lucky, the right time in the right place, better impossible

The blip barely registered on the coinmarketcap.com graph, volumes are huge for BTC nowadays. If only I could send messages to myself in the past!

would you choose money or not making a mistake with some girl? :)

Hmmm never thought about girls, mistakes are lessons well learned when it comes to relationships. Can't say the mistakes I made in investments were good lessons :)

See the 12 Monkeys T.V. series for why trying to change the past is a bad idea.

Did something very similar with some coins years back and got lucky with it. Not trying to push my luck again like that but I do place orders WELL below normal priced just to see what happens

Wowzers!! right place right time.

Like @tracemayer says, always use limit buys and sells. This kind of problem does not affect those using limit orders. Limit orders say, if the price goes below a fixed value x, buy n number of coins; or if the price goes above a fixed value of y, sell n number of coins.

damn, i missed it! :)

Great. Lucky people.

I saw this sort of thing happen with a mining stock a year ago. But it was more like buying for 70 cents instead of 7 bucks...not 6 cents instead of 1200?!
