Are you aware that Lightning Network has More Satoshis Per Bitcoin Than Normal ?

in #bitcoin5 years ago

Okay so Lightning Network is a protocol to send fast, cheap and easy payments kind of off-chain.

Lightning Network is a proposed implementation of Hashed Timelock Contracts (HTLCs) with bi-directional payment channels which allows payments to be securely routed across multiple peer-to-peer payment channels.[1] This allows the formation of a network where any peer on the network can pay any other peer even if they don't directly have a channel open between each other.

I have noticed a lot people don't see one thing that it also adds, instead of a minimal fee of 0.00000001 satoshi (like in normal Bitcoin) they have mili satoshi - 0.00000000001 yes they have 000 more than normal Bitcoin.

So this time i wont give easy answers, i want to hear what do you think this can implicate.

This is a good sign... More zeros means more fractional units of each Bitcoin.

This would give a more precise/accurate value to the Alt. Coins, in terms of Bitcoin.

Thanks, @kingscrown!!!

yep it great :P

Good share of information.

It is there to compensate for the event where Bitcoin has a high price. Having fractions of a sat is a hedge against btc when it is 1 million dollars.

With a greater level of precision, it could open the possibility for reduced overall fees, correct?

Mili Satoshi can be useful in extreme inflation like in Venezuela and Zimbabwe.

It's not a mistake, it's literally a thousandth of a satoshi. A satoshi is the smallest unit for bitcoin, but lightning can transact with even smaller units while channels are open. The amount is rounded down to the nearest satoshi when the channel is closed and broadcast to the blockchain to adhere to bitcoins limit.

MilliSatoshi are the native unit of the Lightning Network. A milli-satoshi is simply 1/1000th of a satoshi. There are 1000 milli-satoshis in a single satoshi. Within the network, all HTLC payments are denominated in milli-satoshis. As milli-satoshis aren't deliverable on the native blockchain, before settling to broadcasting, the values are rounded down to the nearest satoshi.

All of the above however doesn’t give a definitive answer to the question, why?
