Dubai wins prize for Blockchain adoption project within the government

The Smart Dubai Office (SDO) has won an award for its Dubai Blockchain Strategy initiative. Announced during the Smart Cities exhibition and the World Congress that took place in Barcelona, ​​Spain, the City Project Award recognizes the most innovative and successful projects that are being implemented in the area of ​​urban development.

In this way, the SDO exceeded in the competition another 308 projects from 58 countries. Launched in 2016, the Dubai Blockchain strategy considers that the goal of the Dubai government, among many others, is to execute all its operations and place all its documents in a chain of blocks by the year 2020.

This new position of the government of Dubai was revealed for the first time in February 2016, when its Foundation 'Museum of the Future' established the Global Blockchain Council in the city. In addition, Dubai has raised its intention to become the first city in the world that works with Blockchain technology. The effort is now seeing wider recognition.

The SDO presented the Citi Project last week, being hailed as the most innovative, and that is already being implemented or developed in a designated urban area. In addition, a local media report states that the executive director of Smart Dubai Government Establishment, Wesam Lootah, revealed an effort to delineate international standards for the applicability of Blockchain in government. Highlighting his appreciation for the award, Lootah said:

We, at Smart Dubai, plan to go beyond simply applying Blockchain technology to our operations. In fact, we are currently working to delineate the first set of international standards for the Blockchain application in government. We are confident that our experience will inspire cities around the world and provide new opportunities to implement Blockchain in all areas of life.

The SDO also showed Blockchain solutions to improve governance models, as well as to emphasize the role of data in the 'Smart City' initiative of Dubai during the event. Another initiative of this government includes a Blockchain payment system throughout the city, placing all of its property records in a chain of blocks in the coming years.
