John Vallis #7: John McAfee - Crypto-Revolutionary

You've probably heard of John McAfee before.

Whether because of his successful and innovative business history, the controversial aspects of his personal life, or through his more recent advocacy and involvement in the Bitcoin/Blockchain/Crypto space, John McAfee is a well-known, even infamous figure.

However, If your only exposure to John is through twitter, you're likely to think he's a pretty crazy guy. Of course, this may be true to some degree, but subsequent to my interactions with John and his team, I've come to feel that that is far from the full story.

John doesn't give a shit what people think, and seems to take pleasure in being a jokester, and as such, much of what he says publicly must be put through that perceptual filter if one is to have any hope of understanding the man and the things he is communicating.

There is a lot of hearsay and controversy surrounding John McAfee, and nobody but himself knows where to draw the line between fact and fiction, truth and false accusation, sensational headline and wacky twitter post.

Aside from the unconventional elements of his public persona, and based instead on my own interactions with him, I found John to be very thoughtful, genuine, intelligent, kind, polite, and as odd as this may sound to some, thinking and speaking with a refreshing, even admirable clarity and simplicity.

John makes no excuses for having his own self-interest front and centre, but he does so with the belief that this approach to life, and the accompanying responsibility and accountability, is a big component in how we might create a much better society for everyone -- and of course, Bitcoin/Blockchain will help us get there.

I really enjoyed this discussion, and hope I get the chance to sit down with John for a longer chat at some point in the future.
