The Morgan Silver Dollar vs. Bitcoin

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

The US Morgan Silver Dollar was minted from 1878 to 1904, and then one more year in 1921.

These coins were minted in Philadelphia, Carson City, San Francisco and New Orleans.

Total Morgan Dollars minted in the first year (1878) was 22,494,800.

Total Morgan Dollars minted in the last year (1921) was 86,730,000.

Total Bitcoins to be "minted" is 21,000,000.

That means, compared to bitcoin, there were nearly the same number of Morgans minted in the first year of production. And the 1921 production was a little more than 4 times the number of total bitcoins.

Also, interesting to note, the last year of the Morgan Silver Dollar was 1921. And there are 21 Million Bitcoin! Coincidence? You be the judge!

So, at this point, you may be asking yourself, "what is the significance of comparing the mintage or circulation of bitcoins to silver dollars?"

The answer is, not much significance at all. I just thought cryptomaniacs like looking at big numbers, so I put some out there.

You're welcome!
