The Many Names Of Bitcoin Cash

Since its inception BitcoinCash has had a flurry of names and abbreviations. Immediately upon entering the scene people wanted to call their token "BCC" for BitcoinCash, while other sites such as Bitfinex referred to it as "BCH" - emphasizing the H on the end of the Cash. The problem is that there already exists another "BCC" token so this can create some confusion for newcomers.

So then certain groups began to refer to the newly forked currency as "BCash" in order to remove the word Bitcoin from their coin altogether. This was not taken lightly by the BitcoinCash community and seen as a sign of disrespect. According to BitcoinCash.org they want to be referred to by the ticker symbols "BCC" or "XBC"

So how is BitcoinCash ACTUALLY different than the other Bitcoin?

According to BitcoinCash.org:

  • "Is Bitcoin Cash different from 'Bitcoin'?
Yes. Bitcoin Cash is the continuation of the Bitcoin project as peer-to-peer digital cash. It is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain ledger, with upgraded consensus rules that allow it to grow and scale."

  • "Why was a fork necessary to create Bitcoin Cash?
The legacy Bitcoin code had a maximum limit of 1MB of data per block, or about 3 transactions per second. Although technically simple to raise this limit, the community could not reach a consensus, even after years of debate."

  • "Was the 1 MB block size limit causing problems for Bitcoin?
Yes, In 2017, capacity hit the 'invisible wall'. Fees skyrocketed, and Bitcoin became unreliable, with some users unable to get their transactions confirmed, even after days of waiting. Bitcoin stopped growing. Many users, merchants, businesses and investors abandoned Bitcoin. Its marketshare among other cryptocurrencies quickly plummeted from 95% to 40%. "

  • "Does Bitcoin Cash fix these problems?
Yes. Bitcoin Cash immediately raised the block size limit to 8MB as part of a massive on-chain scaling approach. There will be ample capacity for everyone's transactions.Low fees and fast confirmations will resume with Bitcoin Cash. The network will be allowed to grow again. Users, merchants, businesses, and investors will return."

  • "Why didn't Bitcoin raise the block size if it was easy?
Some of the developers did not understand and agree with the original vision of peer-to-peer electronic cash that Satoshi Nakamoto had created. Instead, they preferred Bitcoin become a settlement layer. Many miners and users trusted these developers, while others recognized that they were leading the community down a different road than expected. These two very different visions for Bitcoin are largely incompatible, which led to the community divide."
  • "Which Development Team is In Charge of Bitcoin Cash?
Unlike the previous situation in Bitcoin, there is no one single development team for Bitcoin Cash. There are now multiple independent teams of developers. This decentralization of development (and decentralization of software implementations) is a much needed and important step forward."

It will be very interesting to see what will come of both chains as the world recognizes two legitimate Bitcoins co-existing side by side. Please let me know what you guys think in a comment down below :)

Do you think it can surpass the old man?

I don't think BCH will ever surpass BTC, mainly because of the first mover's advantage that Bitcoin has. I could see it trading at over $1,000 very soon however as miners begin to switch over since profitability is so high. People have to really ask themselves which coin is the real one.

Thanks for the breakdown. I have a mild curiosity with bitcoin and cryptos in general. Still kind of old fashion as far as investing goes tho...perfer silver.

I love silver as a traditional investment. Easy 3X your money there next time it spikes big. The only problem is that silver markets are heavily manipulated.

HEHE thanks, I do them all myself using PhotoScape and free domain images I get online.

I'm seeing polarity going on. Whenever bitcoin has a issue, Bitcoin cash seems to rise and when things are going great with bitcoin, there is much less volume on bitcoin cash. Nice post man! Followed.

Thank you :) There is a very influential man named Roger Ver I believe and he is going to put a lot of money into BCH very soon...
