Opiria: A New Horizon for Personal Data

in #bitcoin6 years ago (edited)

The personal data market might be massive, but its present state limits the categories of personal data that can be efficiently gathered from consumers. As most people keep their eye out for intrusive attempts to gather their personal data, personal data brokers have to limit the types of personal data they can acquire (legally).

Due to the current state in which the personal data market is functioning, many of the personal data categories that could provide companies with valuable insight on product development and upgrades are barren. However, Opiria is about to change this.

Opiria is developing a secure marketplace for personal data; consumers will be able to sell their data directly to companies for PDATA tokens.

A New Horizon for Personal Data

Presently, some forms of personal data are easy to gather; the categories included are feedback, location, and demographics. But even among these categories, consumers often provide inaccurate information in attempts to protect their actual personal information. Opiria will address this issue by giving consumers an incentive to provide accurate information; companies will pay them in PDATA tokens.

But Opiria goes far beyond the offer of accurate data.

Due to Opiria’s marketplace, consumers will voluntarily sell their data. Since the personal data market would no longer be putting consumers in a defensive position, companies will be able to access greater amounts of data across a broad range of criteria. Opiria makes the following a feasible reality:

  • Companies will be able to gather information on consumers browsing behavior. A person’s browsing history is an extremely personal matter, and people go through great lengths to protect it. But if this was commoditized and a price tag was placed upon it, at least a portion of the population would willingly agree to provide this data. The average American spends up to 4 hours a day on the internet; the amount of personal data that can be captured from browsing patterns is extremely valuable to companies in almost every industry.

  • Opiria makes way for accessing personal data twined with specific locations, even homes.
Homes are a missed opportunity to gather a large amount of consumer data as this is where people spend most of their time. Since people are extremely defensive of their privacy at home, most companies have limited ability to acquire data here; those who do attempt could face an extremely severe lash back. Now, Opiria makes it possible to buy personal data that could give insight on how people interact with different products in the place where they spend most of their day.

  • People are extremely sensitive about anything that touches upon their feelings and that’s why gathering personal data attached to emotions has been extremely difficult. Opiria could incentivize a small portion of the population to even open up to a company about their emotions and feelings.

The three categories of data explained above are perhaps the most difficult to acquire. Certainly, not everyone would be willing to provide companies personal data attached to extremely sensitive personal matters, but a certain portion of the population could be incentivized if the price is right.

Opiria’s marketplace will create a true equilibrium in the personal data market. Even the most difficult to access personal data would be up for purchase as demand coupled with low supply will push the price up. Eventually, the price would hit a point where enough people would be willing to sell the specifications of personal data desired by a company.

Opiria empowers people to be the true owners of their data and allows to completely control all aspects of its sale.

Nice write up on this one. Who is the target market for the data that is being sold?

It would be interesting to see something like Opiria partner with an AI project to supply data for the training of neural networks.

The personal data buyers will be from a wide category; though, I expect the greatest demand from consumer product brands. And you do make a point on an interesting partnership. There are some blockchain products targetting advancement of neural networks and Opiria could certainly provide the fuel for that work.

Hopefully, we get to see blockchain projects build partnerships to strengthen this market.
