The us gov might just make crypto currencies illegal in their desperation.
You declare your assets at the border and they will just take it and make you prove where you got it from. Can't? You lose it, maybe sit in jail too.

The one problem with crypto currency that I see is there is no way to short it like in a normal forex market. Most people don't realize that it's the short sellers who actually smooth out and cushion declining markets. How? Because they buy to cover on the way down. In fact, sometimes the shorts are the big buyers on the way down and they actually put in a bottom.....
