How To Buy Bitcoin In Georgia (even the IRS don't want you to do it)

I've watched a lot of videos from @dollarvigilante and read some articles in the web and found out, that it's getting harder and harder for US citizens to

  • open personal bank accounts abroad.
  • buy Bitcoins at exchanges.

It's because of the FATCA agreement that nearly no banks and Bitcoin exchanges want to deal with US citizens. There are several ways to buy Bitcoins even for US citizens, but if it's getting harder you should know other alternatives. This article will cover a nice way around your local authorities. It's possible for US citizens and also for all other nationalities out there :)

So let's start

Now I am in Georgia and I found out a way to easily buy Bitcoins! The funny thing is that I am not a US citizen but I want to share this with you because I want more people to get their financial freedom without governments tell you what to do ;)

For the people who don't know Georgia, it's located between Turkey and Russia at the Black Sea.

Last days I published a article about how to open a personal bank account in Georgia. You can find it here -> So I will not cover in detail how to open a bank account because you will find it in my article. To buy Bitcoin in Georgia it's part of the game to open a bank account first ;)

There are not a lot of destinations in the world where you can open a personal bank account as a US citizen because of the FATCA agreement. Lot's of banks closed their doors for US passport holders.. But here in the caucasus...

You are able to open a personal bank account even with a US passport!

Of course a lot of other nationalities accepted here as well. All European passport accepted and much more. No utility bill or residence needed ;)

If you are not sure if it's possible for you to open a account in Georgia you should call the main branch or use 24/7 online chat of TBC Bank in Tbilisi.

This is important: The only thing you have to do is to go to Georgia in person to open the account. There are also some agencies that will help you to open a account without going in the country. You will find them with Google ;)

You could open the bank account but not the account for buying Bitcoin. So it's necessary to visit Georgia.

But how will me help this to buy Bitcoin?

Here in Georgia are a lot of banks and all of them have so called "Pay Boxes". These boxes are spread around all cities in Georgia. At these Pay Boxes you are able to pay your bills, taxes, top-up you phone and everything else you can imagine is possible with these machines :P

You can not only pay bills with it, you can also buy and sell Bitcoin and Litecoin at these machines!

Liberty Bank has founded www.emoney.ge. At this online platform you can buy Bitcoin and Litecoin online so it's location independent.

These steps you have to do before you can use eMoney:

  • You have to visit beautiful Georgia in person!
  • Open a bank account at TBC Bank or Liberty Bank. TBC Bank offers best rates/fees.
  • Buy a national mobile phone card (You have to show your passport to do it).
  • Register online with your bank account and phone number at eMoney.
  • Verify your account with personal documents

That's it you can now buy Bitcoin/Litecoin online through eMoney.

This way is independent from the US or your home state. You can top-up your new bank account in Georgia though withdrawal money with your credit card at a ATM and deposit it at a branch or by transferring money via TransferWise etc.

Some governments want to make it harder and harder to bring your money out of their reach. Opening personal or corporate bank accounts abroad is a nice way to diversify your savings and make them unreachable for local authorities. It's one part of flag theory.

The fee to buy Bitcoin in Georgia with eMoney is about 2,95% per transaction. It's not to much when you compare it to some exchanges out there. So maybe your next holiday will take place in Caucasus?

Come to Georgia, you will love it! :)
