The Blockchain Meets Virtual Reality - SpectivsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Analysts have been calling for virtual reality to go mainstream for 2 or 3 years now. While equipment is still expensive and rich library of content isn’t there yet, it’s on the way. And very soon in my opinion.

You have Apple introducing its ARKit platform in the next iPhone.

Facebook recently announced another price cut for the Oculus, which you can now get with Touch controllers for $399. HTC Vive is expected to follow suit.

Virtual reality is one of those things you really need to try to get. I was able to test out VR with a HTC Vive headset at a recent conference. My response, “Wow!” “Holy Shit!” and “This is so freakin’ cool!”

I’ve tried out Google Cardboard and for $15 that’s pretty cool as well.

So I was excited when I heard about the first blockchain project in conjunction with virtual reality, Spectiv.

Spectiv is the brainchild of Dylan Senter and Nick Ravanbakhsh, who act as CEO and COO, respectively. They worked on a previous start-up together called Sensitech.

The Spectiv platform is an all-encompassing virtual reality streaming platform. And it’s geared toward the attention markets, meaning viewers, content creators, content curators, and advertisers.

These guys are taking a bit of a different angle. Most VR today is geared towards high-end equipment and high-end content creators. Spectiv is designing its platform for the novice. It envisions users being able to get a headset for $30 and user generated content. In fact, anyone with a 360 camera will be able to shoot and upload VR videos to Spectiv.

You can think of Spectiv as the Youtube of virtual reality.

The founders want Spectiv to be similar to Twitch and its gaming streams.

Spectiv will be unique, however, in that it will use advertising revenues to not only reward content creators but viewers as well.

The platform runs on the Spectiv token, called Specs. Specs are more like an internal currency than a token. You can use it for things like tipping, purchasing premium content, and ad rewards.

Spectiv also has a second token called Signal tokens, or Sigs for short. These are ERC20 tokens and are used by curators to foster increased viewership. What happens is that when you use a Sig, you get a unique URL which you can then share with your followers. It doesn’t matter where those followers are from. So if you have a lot of followers and curating VR content interests you, this could be a money making opportunity.

I like that Spectiv already has partnerships going with some award-winning and popular VR content creators like AirPano and Jeremy Sciarappa. The founders have hinted that more partnerships are on the way.

A crowdsale for Sig tokens starts August 14.

This is going to be an interesting blend of two technologies.

I agree. The blockchain is invading everything.
