Checking in on Decentraland (MANA)
It’s been nearly three months since I last wrote Decentraland.
For those unfamiliar Decentraland is a virtual reality platform powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Users can create, experience, and monetize their content and applications.
And it’s been up to a lot recently, like the website refresh. Check it out below.
When I wrote last time Decentraland was getting ready to do its second land auction. It was dutch-style, meaning parcel prices dropped over the course of the two week auction until they were all snapped up.
The results: All 9,331 remaining parcels were purchased, amounting to a total of 109,521,854 MANA burned, or roughly $6.6 million USD.
Unfortunately, I did not get any more parcels. By the time I checked in they were all gone.
Since the auction Decentraland has introduced a new SDK, aka a software developer kit.
We also got a Decentraland District Update.
Decentraland transferred LAND to all active districts while dissolving and refunding inactive districts.
The dissolved LAND will eventually be auctioned off after the Decentraland Platform has officially launched, at a time agreed upon by the community according to a vote on Agora. Rumors are it could happen in Q2 2019.
In January Decentraland’s 1% marketplace fees went into effect. For every LAND parcel sold (in the official marketplace) the seller will pay a 1% fee, in MANA token, which will be burnt and removed from the total MANA supply.
Decentraland also introduced “The Builder” tool.
“The Builder” tool will comprise of hundreds of pre-built 3D models and assets which will be simple to use, even with little or no tech experience.

I still have no idea if it just hype or if the sales can be sustained...
Well no one knows... but Decentraland is the most exciting VR + blockchain project I know of... worth a small speculation imo.
