Get Your BTC Out Of Blockchain.info - Prepare For August 1st!steemCreated with Sketch.

One of the biggest gripes with the new Blockchain.info wallet is that private keys are not accessible to the user. This is a huge red flag as access to your private key will allow you to keep your Bitcoins in the event that the wallet service disappears. Even users with older or imported wallets could access their keys via the legacy wallet, but that is no more. For this reason, stop using Blockchain.info and look into alternatives that give you access to your own private keys.

See This Post Why You Should Secure Your Private Keys Before August 1st.

Recovery Of Private Keys Through The 12-word Phrase

If you still have access to your 12 word phrase, you can attempt to recover your coins with this Mnemonic Code Converter. It is a theoretical method, but there is not guarantee that these private keys will lead to your coins. See more info from this bitcointalk post.

Don't Trust Online Wallets

Switch to another Bitcoin storage method in which you will have access to your private keys. The motto is "be your own bank" so you should do just that but from your own computer. To get out of the ticking time bomb that is Blockchain.info, you will have to transfer out to your new address and eat the transaction fee.

You can simply do things the old fashioned way store your bitcoins the old fashioned way with in an encrypted wallet.dat file via the official client. Electrum is another great option that won't require you do download the whale of a blockchain. For cold storage, consider creating paper wallets that are BIP-38 encrypted.

Hello fiserman, thanks for using my service.

I can't spin for you as I am not at home, but because my voting power is recovered and I will not be on the steemit that much for some days, I will give you 100% upvote. :) Hopefully you are not mad about that.

This is scary !! :O let's get back to our old good method - "Cold storage" to secure crypto babies !

I haven't used blockchain recently, but a quick google search yields this post on stackexchange from just 6 months ago.

It is no longer possible to export the private keys like the first answer in that stack exchange link suggests. The bip39 generator is the only method now.

If extracting keys is still possible and all the crypto is done in JS client-side (easy to verify if you know how to), then there's no reason to panic, because it's the same as it was - functionally.
That being said, I find the direction it's going quire worrying. If further steps in the won direction are taken, they well earn a place right next to Poloniex on the list of services i urge people to avoid at all costs.
If this doesn't draw the attention of someone who can verify that all crypto is done client-side before I am back near my computers, I will be sure to bring it to such an individuals attention.

This post has received a 0.25 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @fiserman.
