Lets take a hypothetical view into some statistics about Bitcoin and countries around the world. All bitcoin statistics & numbers are from the the day this post was written: February 23rd 2018.

If Bitcoin was a country it would be ranked at 56th place by Market Capitalization as GDP. At the peak of Bitcoin price in late 2017, BTC would have been even higher on this ladder.

Currently the Bitcoin network consumes 51.09 TWh of electricity consumption annually. If it was a country it would rank at the 48th place on the ladder of countries sorted by annual electricity consumption.

Conclusion
Looking at this data it is clear that bitcoin has taken some serious steps forward into the path to mass adoption. Comparing bitcoin to countries gives us a better perspective of how relay big has Bitcoin got in just 10 years of its creation.
