Medium begins to censor content related to cryptocurrencies

in #bitcoin6 years ago (edited)

The medium publication platform has shown signs of rejection towards the cryptocurrency community. After making some important changes in its policies, it has decided to suspend the blog posts of several Blockchain and cryptocurrency projects.

However, changes in the policies of Medium do not explicitly restrict in any of their fields to cryptocurrencies, ICOs launches or any other project related to this sector. For its part, the CEO of Medium, Evan Williams, who was CEO of Twitter at the time, has not commented on it to clarify what is happening.

The site of Blockchain.io in Medium was temporarily suspended, and even when it was restored it showed the message 'is not available' for its last publication. Also Status, a messaging platform based on the Ethereum network, said:

We recently tried to make a publication on our blog announcing our last Big Bounty program. The publication was immediately suspended, followed by an automatic email that signaled a general infringement, without providing any details, and a link to the recently updated Medium policy on cryptocurrencies.

Both Blockchain.io and Status, the situation has been the same: suspension of the platform suddenly. The most worrisome of all this is that Medium has been perhaps the main platform to publish relevant information about Blockchain projects and cryptocurrencies for companies, researchers and other influential people in this sector.

When Google and Facebook decided to ban ads on cryptocurrencies and ICOs within their platforms, many members of the community did not flinch, because they are two centralized companies that are generally in favor of traditional economic systems.

However, when the email marketing service Mailchimp also decided to veto this sector, and Twitter took similar measures to Facebook and Google, the alarms began to turn on. For its part, the platforms affected in Medium have only limited themselves to criticizing the censorship they have been victims of, but no further details are known about whether legal action will be taken or not.
