One difference between valuing a market cap of something like bitcoin and gold is all the lost or destroyed bitcoins.. Hard to do that with gold unless you get your ship sent to the bottom of the sea by pirates or something!

Very true, although I think not much ETH has been lost - people are a bit more savvy now.
