Other hundreds of cryptos in the crypto-crypt. Watch out, be wary of what you are investing in. I wrote earlier, seven months ago, the 20th of September 2018:

73 percent more dead

I warned investors because the changes are very quick on this market. “Don’t put all your money in one and only crypto, and don’t put it all in cryptocurrencies either.” I repeat it because other big quantity of cryptocurrencies landed in the “crypto-crypt” since then. The page Deadcoins.com listed 1579 coins today – this are 73 percent more than seven months and two days before.

I don’t know how much money people invested in these, or in mining costs, working hours, but obviously, the market is making its selection. A lot of coins could have only caused losses and tears. Beercoin, Apecoin, CuntCoin (!), Clones like “Ethereum Plus” or “Ether 1”, failed ICO-s and scams. Hundreds and hundreds of them.

Market capitalization 8 dollars

Coinranking.com listed 6,811 coins today – crazy. This list covers 137 pages, but the number 3,980 on page 80 has already zero USD of value. One before, the coin called Mycelium, only 8 USD. A box of beer cane? “Low volume, unconfirmed supply” – dozens of coins are marked with this not very promising label. I suppose at least the half of these 6,811 coins are totally worthless, deadcoins.

Coinmarketcap.com seems to make more selection, and lists “only” 2,129 coins at the moment. This is 7,7 percent more than in September. But the last 400-500 on this list have no value there either.

Not only the small ones die

Are only small and unknown cryptocurrencies affected by extinction, or are more important ones are also in danger? I discovered a great tool on Coinmarketcap, the “Historical snapshots”. Let’s see one snapshot, from the 29th of December 2013, some weeks after the top of the first big crypto-hype:

As you can see, from the 20 leading cryptocurrencies, only four are in the “mainstream” today: Bitcoin, XRP (Ripple), Litecoin and Dogecoin, the fun meme currency (relatively successful, by the way). The others are not really known actually, for example OMNI, the fourth crypto in 2013, is now on place 688 (and the price fell to 3.5 USD from 180 USD in 2013). Peercoin, nosediving to place 254 from 5th, price: to 0.55 from 4.3 more than five years ago.

And the next five years?

Basically, if you invested in the 20 cryptos with the biggest capitalization in 2013, you lost a lot. Only Bitcoin, Litecoin, XRP and Dogecoin seem to have success. What will happen in the next 5-6 years? Will be the leaders totally different from today? Will be the 75 percent of the first 20 on the list worthless? Who knows. But I prefer to invest in Bitcoin, Ether and Steem, the two greatest ones + the crypto I like because it provides me with income when I’m blogging. Maybe these ones will survive.
