As always: it is recommended to use an antimalware (antivirus) if you use an operating system that's easily hijacked (usually Windows, but there are others). They're free: don't waste money on paid ones.

I'd also recommend spinning up a VM, just in case things go tits up. Much easier to clone a VM from a clean one than reimage the whole computer.
