CT News: Hackers Crack Amazon's Cloud to Mine BTC!

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Hackers these days are becoming increasingly more creative when it comes to making a buck! Recently some hackers were able to break into servers owned by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and use resources to mine Bitcoin!

A report from the security intelligence group RedLock found at least two companies which had their AWS cloud services compromised by hackers who wanted nothing more than to use the computer power to mine the cryptocurrency bitcoin. The hackers ultimately got access to Amazon's cloud servers after discovering that their administration consoles weren't password protected.

"Upon deeper analysis, the team discovered that hackers were executing a bitcoin mining command from one of the Kubernetes containers," reads the RedLock report. Kubernetes is a Google-created, open-source technology that makes it easier to write apps for the cloud.

According to this article, hackers were not just able to gain access to some AWS servers but they were also able to get their mining script working. However, there isnt any detail given as to how effective this strategy was for the hackers involved in terms of actually mining Bitcoins.

CryptoTelegraph Summary

These types of creative hacking activities will most likely continue to expand and increase in number as the price of Bitcoin continues to rise exponentially. What predictions do you have for Bitcoin in the coming months?

Lol even amazon isn't safe form hackers. Thanks for the news though..@cryptotelegraph

Crypto is the safest place to keep your money and the most dangerous place at the same time! How could that be true?

Interesting news. I guess the hook is AWS. Seems like people are looking for free CPU wherever they can get it. I look forward to the proof of stake schemes that are being developed by many of the cryptocurrency systems. It is time to use compute power to solve real world problems...not doing busy work to prove compute power. When this happens, there will be no reason to hack or steal compute power for mining.

Yes. It is certainly odd to see AWS getting hacked when they are one of the largest IT services on the planet! Scary even right?
